January 2025 - Boys Varsity Basketball

Taraji Smoots
The Boys Varsity Basketball Student-Athlete of the month for January is Taraji Smoots. He has transformed his approach with players and coaches making the teams’ experience on and off the court positive. He is inclusive with his peers and teammates, making sure everyone is involved. Taraji shows respect towards coaches and works hard in school to keep himself focused. We are pleased with his positive attitude and his willingness to accept feedback. He has been working on reducing his turn overs and has succeeded in doing so. Taraji makes up for his mistakes in the very next possession to get the ball back and carry the team with his positive attitude. Great job, keep up the hard work Taraji!

Molly Guthrie
Our Girls Varsity Basketball Student-Athlete of the month for January Is Molly Guthrie. She was also selected for Spirit Club’s Student-Athlete of the month. This goes to show how committed Molly is in her performance. She represents her school on and off the court very well with a great attitude. She shows excellence in the education field as an athlete on the basketball court during practice or games. She shows her hard work and always keeps her head high. This outstanding student athlete embodies the cheer spirit! Throughout the month, she has demonstrated significant improvement in her skills, coupled with growing confidence and courage. Her exceptional qualities include respectful interactions with peers and coaches, willingness to take on new tasks and challenges, and a consistently positive attitude during games. Kaylee Davis
MSD’s Youth Basketball Student-Athlete of the month for January goes to Kaylee Davis. She has really improved her skills on the basketball floor and gets along with all her peers. She has been playing a lot of minutes even though she has been dealing with different injuries. Kaylee is very focused on improving herself; She does everything that is asked of her. She also is an amazing student and an amazing role model for her peers. We are very proud of her. Way to go Kaylee, go Tartars!

James Hawkshaw
James Hawkshaw is the Student-Athlete of the month of January for MSD’s Varsity Bowling team. He has developed a passion for bowling. James continues to show improvements not only in his scores, but in his leadership skills as well. He cooperates well with his coach and his peers. Making sure his team feels included has helped James show more leadership on the team. Keep up the hard work James!

Marquise Johnson
The Boys Varsity Basketball Student-Athlete of the month for December is Marquise Johnson. He comes to practice with a positive approach with his peers and coaches. If he makes a mistake, he is always trying to make it up and learn. He is overcoming his fears and focusing on improving his skills. Marquise scored in a few games because he didn't back down or give up and continued to try to make the shot. He comes to practice on time to not jeopardize falling behind in his performance. We would like to recognize his ability and his passion to thrive in basketball. Congratulations Marquise! Keep up the hard work, it will pay off!

Phoenix Miller
Our Girls Varsity Basketball Student-Athlete of the month for December is Phoenix Miller. She was chosen because she shows that she takes her education seriously. She shows up to practice on time and is always ready. She puts forth her full energy during practices and game days. Phoenix may not be the best player on the court, but she helps her team with her toughness and her outstanding defense. Phoenix is our silent warrior. Great job Phoenix! You show true Tartar spirit!

GraceAnn Garcia
MSD’s Youth Basketball Student-Athlete of the month for December goes to GraceAnn Garcia. She has improved tremendously since she began basketball 2 years ago. It’s her 3rd year playing, she has impressed everyone on how quickly she has picked up the game and skill set. She has been more aggressive and not afraid to take necessary shots. GraceAnn’s rebounding has also improved greatly. She is always very respectful with her team, including coaches. Keep on keeping on, GraceAnn! Let’s go Tartars!
December 2024 - Varsity Bowling

Laura Reza-Jaimes
Laura Reza-Jaimes is the Student-Athlete of the month of December for MSD’s Varsity Bowling team. She follows directions and coach’s suggestions helping her scores improve. Every time she bowls, she gets a higher and higher score. The amount of improvement she has made is astounding. Laura shows support to her team, making her a leader. The team relies on her very much. Not only for her scores, but for her positive attitude. Great job Laura! Keep it up!
October 2024-Varsity Volleyball

Molly Guthrie
The Varsity Volleyball October Student-Athlete of the month is Molly Guthrie! Molly has a strong passion for volleyball, truly enjoying the sport. She is always positive and helps her team with Tartar spirit. Molly leads the team in assists, kills, and aces this season. Her serve is hard to receive, and she is learning how to perfect the setter’s dump. Her teammates and coaches trust and respect her. She is always willing to learn and asks for feedback on how to improve. Molly embodies what it means to be a Tartar on and off the court. Great job and what an amazing season!
October 2024-Middle School Volleyball

Roxy Mader
Our Student-Athlete of the Month for October is seventh-grader Roxy Mader! Like many athletes, Roxy experiences nerves, but she handles them like a champ. Her team spirit is nothing short of invaluable; she brings positivity and encouragement to her teammates, fostering a supportive environment that benefits everyone on the court. Roxy's leadership skills shine brightly, extending beyond her athletic abilities as she naturally steps into roles that help manage and guide her peers effectively. She is also flexible in her role, willing to change positions from middle blocker to outside hitter, and now she serves as our setter for the remainder of the season. Roxy's willingness to embrace these challenges makes her an invaluable asset to our team, and we couldn't be prouder to recognize her achievements this month! Keep up the great work, Roxy! Keep that chin up and set!

We are pleased to introduce our September Student-Athlete of the Month for the Middle School Volleyball team, GraceAnn Garcia! Despite being new to volleyball, GraceAnn has shown outstanding progress since our volleyball camp. Her serving skills have been a game-changer for our team. William Booker
The Boys Varsity Track and Field SAOM for April is William Booker. This is his first year running track and he has far exceeded everyone’s expectations. He is an amazing teammate, always willing to help. His passion for track and helping others shows brightly. He did stupendous at all of his meets and continues to stay motivated. He has a bright future in athletics. Way to go William! Go Tartars!

Charlotte Morgan
April Student-Athlete of the Month for Girls Varsity Track and Field is Charlotte Morgan. She is extremely motivated and never gives up. She asks to try various events and completes them with pride. Charlotte can do anything and everything! She is constantly seeking knowledge and trying to improve. Charlotte is a very impressive athlete. She also enjoys making players and coaches laugh. Kaylee Davis
February Student-Athlete of the Month for the 4th-6th grade Basketball team is Kaylee Davis. She always shows up on time and has never missed a practice. She has a huge positive attitude and a lot of respect for her coaches and team. She is always asking for feedback on how to improve. Kaylee doesn’t give up. We are so proud of her. Amazing job Kaylee!
February 2024 - 7th/8th Grade Basketball

Jaycob Leak
The 7th/8th grade Basketball SAOM for February is Jaycob Leak. Jaycob has shown tremendous improvement playing basketball. He has learned how to rebound and shoot a lot better, and his understanding of the game has soared. He started every game this year and played almost double the minutes he played last year. We are super proud of him. Go Jaycob and go Tartars!

Matteo VanBeveren
February Student-Athlete of the Month for Varsity Basketball is Matteo VanBeveren. He is motivated to learn about the game of basketball. He has been trying to learn how to pass, shoot, dribble, rebound, and set up defense and offense plays and positions. Matteo always has a positive attitude and never gives up. He is young and has a bright future for our basketball program. Great job Matteo!

Channing Kennedy
The 7th/8th grade Basketball SAOM for January is Channing Kennedy. He has had an amazing season. He is an aggressive rebounder with drastic improvements on defense. Channing has many blocks and controls the paint when he is on the court. It is impressive on how long he can keep playing without giving up or taking a break. Not only is he becoming more consistent, but he also works well with his teammates. He has developed a passion and determination for the game, learning from his mistakes. Channing is an important reason why his team is 10-2 so far this season. We are so proud, great job Channing! Keep it up.
December 2023 - Varsity Basketball

Phoenix Miller
December Student-Athletes of the Month for Varsity Basketball is Phoenix Miller. She is a motivated athlete who wants to learn about the sport. Phoenix may not have lots of experience in basketball, but she would keep trying and working hard every single day; whether it be in practices or games. During practices, she willingly and strongly participates in different training drills, has been learning different basketball skills, and studying plays that were designed for a game. She is extremely competitive during the basketball games and will not give up. Great job Phoenix! Keep up the hard work.
December 2023 - 7th/8th Grade Basketball

The December 7th/8th grade Basketball SAOM is Taraji Smoots. He works hard and plays super hard. TJ is always very supportive of his teammates. He has played amazing defense with over 5 steals or more per game. He has great sportsmanship and represents the Tartars well. He continues to make himself and all his teammates better, because they get inspired by his actions. Way to go TJ! Keep it up.

December Student-Athlete of the Month for the 4th-6th grade Basketball team is Sophie Hawkshaw. Even though it is her first year playing, she has impressed everyone on how quickly she has picked up the game and skill set. She is highly motivated, very aggressive, and extremely competitive. October 2023 - Varsity Volleyball

Jaleah Allen
Jaleah Allen is October’s Student-Athlete of the month! Jaleah made progress in her attendance and motivation during the month of October. She proved she was ready to take on more leadership roles by being respectful, responsible and safe. Jaleah took it upon herself to learn how to jump serve and her serves were hard to receive. She has the highest number of attack attempts, while also getting 3 kills; highest number of aces, 19; and the highest percentage in receiving, 86%. Teammates depended on her to put the ball away and get the point. Great job Jaleah!
September 2023 - Varsity Volleyball

Molly Guthrie
Molly Guthrie has a passion for the sport of volleyball and it shows. It is obvious that she practices regularly and tries her hardest. Molly quickly became a key player, improving throughout the month. She is friendly and a team player. She leads the team with 14 Aces so far this season. Great job Molly, keep up the hard work!
